Soul Kitty

10 July 2017

In 2012 we said good-bye to my soul-dog Korkie. She was with me through some of the hardest times in my life. She was the only one that was with me through it all. Fourteen years, day in and day out, without question. She saved my life. I mourn her absence every day but something happened last week that shocked me.

Emma got sick – throwing up and constipated. We took her to the vet and as I sat on the floor waiting on some test results with her in my lap I discovered that she meant just as much to me as Korkie did.

Don’t get me wrong, I adore all animals. I love my animals like my children but you know when you have that connection — a soul mate. Without warning and in an instant I knew Emma and I shared that connection.

My best kitty ever. I will miss Korkie every day for the rest of my life but I take comfort in knowing that Emma is here.

The Hardest Thing

18 March 2016

Furkids are our lives, we cherish them and take care of them. It never ends well and the ending never gets easier.

While we were on the fence about whether it was time for Dexter with his dementia making life very hard on us all (with 3 separate biting incidents in the past month or so),  Cinder decided to stop eating, has been sleeping almost constantly, and has started having bladder control issues.

We decided it was best to send them on their way to college with a vet we knew and trusted.  Today was truly a horrible experience.. having to say good-bye to not one, but two of our loving companions.. and things didn’t go smoothly.

Kitty Approved

24 May 2015

We bought a kitty perch that hangs over the door – but in the new rig there isn’t going to be a place to hang the perch – so we took it over to Paws4Ever in Mebane.

Before we even got back home I got an email with this picture attached … kitty approved!!

Topsy the Elephant

4 January 2015

Smuggled into the country while young, Topsy was an Asian elephant. Tormented and tortured throughout her life in the name of entertainment. Thomas Edison electrocuted her 4 January 1903 in an effort to show the world just how lethal Alternating Current was. It was his hope that people would abandon A/C and stick with his idea of Direct Current (thus making him even more money).

Elephants are not here for our circus entertainment. They are majestic beasts that deserve the life they were meant to have. I would like to say that 100 years later we all know better and cruelty against animals is a thing of the past. But, with so many people refusing to give up their “family friendly” circus entertainment, it is unlikely we are near the end of this practice.

What can you do to help?

Stop giving your money to circuses, theme park, and fairs that use animal entertainment. Let these attractions know that you won’t be giving them money while they continue to have animals perform.

Donate the money you would have spent on the tickets to an animal rescue / sanctuary of your choice and instead teach your children how they can help these animals.
